MURAL APPLICATION

HOW TO APPLY OUR MURALS IN 10 EASY STEPS:

At WallpaperOnline we supply only the most convenient and best quality wallpaper we can get our hands on – that’s why our wallpaper has the most advanced peel & stick application available – no glue, no mess, no special tools. Here are some of the pros and cons.

Why choose peel & stick? :

  • Traditional wallpaper will require paste and a roller brush to apply the paste to the wall. Peel and stick (removable) wallpaper doesn’t require any of those tools which results in an easier, less messy, experience.
  • Our peel & stick wallpaper can easily be removed without damaging the wall. Our wallpaper can be cleaned with a damp cloth and some soapy water and doesn’t collect stains.

***Disclaimer – if you’re doing this yourself (for the first time) try choose a flat, square wall, the more nooks crannies (and bulges) the wall has the more difficult it will be – so be kind to yourself 🙂

1. Determine How Much Wallpaper You’ll Need To Wallpaper Your Wall.

Measure the height of each wall from the floor to the ceiling and the width of each wall from side to side with a measuring tape. Once you have the measurementstype them into the handy roll calculator.

2. Turn Off The Electricity And Remove Wall Plates With A Screwdriver.

To protect the outlets and yourself, it’s best to remove the panels to ensure a clean-looking paper installation.

3. Clean The Walls Thoroughly.

Ensure there is no dust or dirt on your wall. Dirt or dust on the wall can make the wallpaper lift from the wall. A good old fashioned wipe down will do.

4. Smooth Over Cracks In The Wall.

While you’ve got the chance, it’s best to smooth over the wall before you paper over it. Apply crack filler to any cracks or holes in the wall with a putty knife, then wait for it to dry. Afterward, sand it smooth with fine-grit sandpaper. Lumpy walls will make for a lumpy wallpaper, stippled or textured walls will make it difficult for the wallpaper to stick – the smoother the better.

5. Draw Guidelines On The Wall.

Using your measuring tape mark the wall along the exact width of your wallpaper, make a number of marks down the wall at the same distance, using a spirit level or ruler connect these dots so you have a clear guideline to apply your first wallpaper straight.

6. Apply The Mural, Starting From The Left Of The Wall.

Each strip of wallpaper is cut to your ordered height. Each strip is also numbered at the back along the top, to insure ease of applying the drops in their correct consecutive order. You will apply the first piece of wallpaper on the left of the wall and work your way out, with each numbered strip following on from the first. Leave enough overhang along the top and bottom of each strip, which you can cut away with a box cutter once the strip has been applied to the wall.

7. Lining Up Your Next Pieces.

Begin at the ceiling and left of the wall, leaving about 1 – 2 inch hanging over the top and below the floor. Carefully line up the wallpaper (ensure it is 100% straight from ceiling to floor) and starting from the top peel away the backing and stick the top of the paper (as perfectly straight as humanly possible) to the ceiling/cornice/top of the wall. Now slowly peel away more backing while flattening the freshly peeled paper to the wall using a brush or card.
* IMPORTANT: If your wallpaper doesn’t line up perfectly the first time don’t panic! Our wallpaper is super thick and has a special glue which means you can pull it right off as many times as you need to get the alignment right.

8. Flatten The Paper With A Wallpaper Brush Or Card.

To ensure a perfect finish for your wallpaper, you need to eliminate wrinkles as thoroughly as possible, or the wallpaper will look uneven and bubbly. Smooth the paper from the middle out, using enough pressure to force the bubbles out through the edges. If you do create some wrinkles inadvertently, carefully pull a piece of the paper away from the wall until you reach the wrinkle, and press it out slowly.

9. Continue Application, Matching The Pattern Appropriately.

Align the next piece to the first piece. When hanging wallpaper, it’s important to match the patterns together as closely as possible, if you’re using patterned wallpaper. Apply your next piece of wallpaper, starting at the top. Repeat as in step 7. Trim the excess from the top and bottom of each piece of paper. Use your wallpaper brush or piece of card to flatten the wallpaper against the ceiling then cut the extra off with a razor blade.

Now repeat!
